This week’s podcast episode is “The Burden of Proof” https://jesusunfollower.com/the-burden-of-proof
Check out this YouTube video where a Christian, Taiwo Adewuyi, says that Humanism is a ‘first-class ticket to a sea of wantonness and debauchery’ and generally ‘demonic.’ https://youtu.be/3j8jQkSydeo
Humanism seems to be misunderstood by many as this selfish, anti-god type thing. Once again, religious folk take personal offense if we don’t believe in their god(s).
Racism in Christianity
I was sent an article with the title “Racism among white Christians is higher than among the nonreligious. That’s no coincidence.” It’s easy for some to dismiss articles like this as an “attack on Christianity,” but this was written by, wait for it, a white Christian.
Here’s a paragraph that stood out to me:
“While it may seem obvious to mainstream white Christians today that slavery, segregation and overt declarations of white supremacy are antithetical to the teachings of Jesus, such a conviction is, in fact, a recent development for most white American Christians and churches, both Protestant and Catholic.”
Satan is Going Ballistic
Right-wing evangelical James Robison thinks that Satan was tired of seeing the progress being made in the US and, more specifically, by President Trump. This caused him to go “ballistic.” This way of thinking is bizarre in many ways because 1) Why wouldn’t Satan just go “ballistic” all the time, if he has the power to do so? He just waits until people are looking to god, and *then* he decides to turn it up to 11? And 2) COVID-19 is so much bigger than America, which some pastors have a tendency to forget. If they don’t think it’s a conspiracy, then they think Satan is trying to mess up Trump’s re-election. This thing is worldwide, folks.
I try not to get too political in these emails, but Trump also recently said this about Joe Biden: “Hurt the Bible. Hurt God. He’s against God. He’s against guns. He’s against energy.” The man will say anything to get re-elected.
There’s No Such Thing As Atheists
If you’re an atheist reading this, I hate to inform you, but you don’t exist. This is one of the most common things said to me on social media: “Atheists don’t exist.” And then they’ll go on to cite Romans 1:20:
“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse”
The absurdity of this is that obviously, as atheists, the Bible carries as much weight to us as Lord of the Rings. It’s insulting to say that atheists don’t exist, especially if you are trying to have a conversation with us. How far do you think a conversation would get if I led off with “Christians don’t exist”? Not far at all.
In this article from Crossway.Org, six reasons are given why there’s no such thing as an atheist:
1. People Know There Is a God
2. People Know There Is Truth
3. People Know There Is Right and Wrong
4. People Know They Are Not Righteous
5. People Know Judgement Is Necessary
6. People Know They Need a Savior
They use the phrase “People Know” to project their own opinions and insecurities. Here’s the condescending article: https://www.crossway.org/articles/why-theres-no-such-thing-as-an-atheist/
On next week’s podcast, I talk about the Christian movie “I’m in Love With a Church Girl,” starring Ja Rule. As always, thanks for reading!
